My Favorite krishna kanthi necklace

My favorite traditional jewelry is my mother's krishna kanthi necklace which i wore on my wedding, 29 years ago. Image of lord krishna and his beloved Radha is engraved with meena work on all the seven squares of gold pieces stringed together with three gold chains. i call it my prized possession both because of its sentimental value as well as its rarity. We in our times preferred to have heavy gold jewelry. But today , younger generation is going for light and trendy and modern designs. but i personally feel that we can still have tradition woven into modern trends. Like sui dhaga( needle and thread) ear danglers from kashmir region are traditional yet trendy .

Then there is Chamba bali with its unique design can beat any modern day ear ring. Chinar patta talli,..list is endless. Indian continent is full of such designs , designs which any modern girl would love to own and flaunt., be it icarved in silver or gold. Because of its afford ability silver is fast replacing gold . and Jaipur silver jewelry has wonderful designs. Craze for Diamond jewelry too is spreading. In India there is a piece of jewelry for every part of body. Starting from jhoomar and tikka or borla for forehead to toe rings. There are earrings, nose rings/nose pins. Bazu band to be worn on the upper arm, bracelets, karghani .. for the waist to enhance its slimness . Pajeb or payal or anklets for ankles, are just a few examples. Traditional gold jewelry is still preferred by some to be worn with best gowns. But diamond jewelry suits better with new range of gowns.
